BackCountry Navigator allows you to download topographic maps for offline use on your outdoor adventures. This popular Android app lets you utilize your phone or tablet as a handheld GPS with off-road topo mapping capabilities. It enables you to explore areas beyond cellular coverage, making it ideal for hiking and other recreational activities.

You can download topographic maps for the US and various other countries in advance, eliminating the need for cell coverage during your navigation. The app allows you to store maps on your device's memory for easy access.

A new feature includes support for Android Wear, providing convenient navigation information at a glance on your wrist. You can utilize GPS waypoints from GPX or KML files, or input your coordinates using different formats such as longitude/latitude, UTM, MGRS, or grid reference. The 'GOTO' function turns waypoints into actionable loci for navigation.

BackCountry Navigator supports various map sources including OpenStreetMaps from MapQuest, OpenCycleMaps for global terrain information, US Topo Maps from Caltopo and the USGS, Canada Topo Maps from Toporama, NOAA RNC Nautical Charts for marine navigation, and more.

Users can make use of offline topo maps and GPS even in areas with no cell service, enhancing their backcountry navigation experience. With GPS satellite positioning and offline maps, users do not need to rely on data connectivity for map access.

The app can serve as a geocaching navigator by importing pocket queries as GPX files. Aside from geocaching, it enables users to record tracks and waypoints during trips while tracking their progress on topographic maps.
